Canon Professional Network
A digital platform for photography professionals, built around inspiration, craft, and Canon’s visual identity.
Canon Europe, London (UK), 2017
The overview
The Canon Professional Network was the digital hub for photographers and imaging pros across Europe. Instead of just pushing product specs, the platform had to be a genuine source of inspiration, mixing heavy editorial stories, community features, global contests, and deep technical insights.
Because the target audience consisted entirely of people who obsess over image quality for a living, every piece of content, newsletter, and campaign asset had to look perfect. No pressure.
The work
As a Visual Designer on the team for a solid year, my job was to make sure our layouts didn’t insult our audience’s eyeballs. I designed website pages, custom microsites, newsletters, and campaign assets. The real work here was in the choice of the assets themselves: curating imagery, establishing strict visual hierarchies, and building layouts that let the photography breathe while adhering to Canon’s colossal corporate guidelines.
Beyond the daily content grind, I curated the visual identity for recurring global photo contests and featured stories. It was an intense bootcamp in high-volume, premium production that forced me to evaluate hundreds of world-class photos every week. Consider it a masterclass in visual storytelling that finely tuned my eye, while occasionally giving me a serious case of imposter syndrome.
The result
- Managed the editorial design for a high-volume platform serving photography professionals across Europe.
- Translated raw content into compelling visual narratives through intentional photography curation, image hierarchy, and layout.
- Built and deployed across a toolkit of formats, including web pages, microsites, newsletters, and campaign assets.
- Upheld Canon’s premium standards across every single output without letting the quality slip over time.
